Chapter 191: There Is No Try

As his enemy sadistically began to hunt down Ace’s friends, the Pikachu continued feebly struggling to free himself from the large machine his prosthetic paw was pinned inside, but to no avail. After a couple more minutes of fruitless exertion, Ace finally slumped to the floor, wheezing for breath from exhaustion and pain. After taking a moment to think over his situation, Ace quickly began glancing all around him in a desperate search for anything he could use to his advantage, until his eyes suddenly fell on an emergency fire axe resting on a counter surface a couple meters away.

Perfect… Now, if I can just… the Pikachu thought to himself as he desperately tried to reach for the tool with his one free paw. However, upon quickly discovering that the axe was too far out of his reach, Ace slumped to the floor again, coughing and wheezing in fatigue. Ginger… I’m sorry… I couldn’t protect you this time… I failed you… I failed everybody… he moped silently to himself, looking down at the floor in defeat.

    At that moment, however, a memory of Ace’s Jedi training as a human suddenly occurred to him. {Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.” the tiny blue hologram of the long dead Jedi master emanating from the small Rubik’s Cube-looking box said in his amusingly unusual syntax, before crackling out into static and disappearing, signifying the end of the recording file.}

Do or do not. There is no try… the Pikachu repeated in his mind, before calmly closing his eyes, and slowly reaching his paw over towards the fire axe. At first, nothing seemed to happen, but after a moment, the handle of the tool suddenly began to twitch slightly on the countertop.

----

Just as the group of six heroes braced themselves for combat with the Chandelure guised Ditto, another figure, this one having taken the form of a Golurk, suddenly emerged from around the corner at the other end of the hallway. As the two malevolent shape shifters slowly closed in in the group, the Golurk-formed figure, loudly shaking the floor with each thunderous step, proclaimed in the familiar male voice of Dopple “You’re not getting away this time, squirts!”

----

As Ace persisted his deep concentration in the Force, the fire axe continued to ever so gradually quiver and inch forward in his direction, until finally, the tool suddenly flew off of the counter right into the Pikachu’s extended left paw. Wasting no time, Ace immediately began chopping the blade of the axe down onto the remainder of his crushed prosthetic right paw several times, flinging metal components and splatters of blue hydraulic fluid in every which direction in the process. After a few moments, the pinned portion of the prosthetic finally gave way, allowing Ace to fall back away from the massive gears, the remaining stump of his false paw sparking and dripping dark blue liquid.

After just continuing to stare back at the machine that had ensnared part of his prosthetic for a long moment, wheezing for breath from exhaustion, Ace heard the voice another familiar Pikachu call out concernedly from behind him “Ace? What happened? Are you alright?”

Upon turning around to face the voice, and seeing Carlos and Luke running up to him from around the corner, Ace replied urgently between laboured breaths “Carlos…? I’m fine… but we can talk later… Ginger… and the others… need help…!”

“Can you walk?” Luke then asked seriously.

“Yeah… I think so…” Ace replied weakly as he slowly staggered to his feet, and began limping forward in the direction he sensed the other six members of the away team were.

As the three Pokemon hastily began to make their way to their periled friends, they failed to notice as an oddly familiar blinking red light in the crushed remains of Ace’s right paw trapped between the gears of the large machine finally winked out.

----

Meanwhile, back in the storage room, several of the large barrels of coffee creamer were tipped over with their contents spilled all over the floor, as the large industrial ventilation fan, which was turned on to maximum power, was blowing the white powdery substance all around the room and in through the huge air circulation vent in the back.

----

Just as the battle between the six heroes and the two criminal Ditto was about to begin, three other Pokemon suddenly appeared around the corner behind the Chandelure guised Jealousy. Upon recognizing the new arrivals, Ginger exclaimed in delight “Ace! And Carlos and Luke, too!”

Whipping around to face the three Pokemon, Jealousy growled “Ace?! I thought my brother already dealt with you!”

As the feminine Ditto in Chandelure form quickly began charging up a fire type attack of some kind, a weak, lopsided grin suddenly appeared on Ace’s face, as he warned between wheezy breaths “I wouldn’t do that… if I were you…”

“Oh? And why not?” Jealousy demanded coldly.

At that moment, Sandra suddenly began sniffing the air around her for a moment, before asking curiously “What’s that smell?”

Wriggling her nostrils a bit herself, Sunburst commented “It smells like… artificial coffee creamer.”

All of a sudden, all the Pokemon soon began coughing and sneezing intensely as a thick cloud of creamy white powder quickly began to fill the hallway from out of a nearby air vent in the ceiling.

“What the hell is going on here?!” Dopple demanded in confusion.

“My… backup plan…” Ace began to explain between painful coughs and wheezes. “While you were all… playing cat and mouse… I found… a room full of coffee creamer filled barrels… so I dumped a bunch of them on the floor… and turned on… the ventilation system… So all I had to do… was play for time… until the whole building was properly primed…”

    “Properly primed?” Sandra inquired.

Ace nodded. “Coffee creamer… is known… for being… highly flammable… so as soon… as it reaches the right fuel to air ratio mixture… all it will take is a spark or an open flame…”

“…And the whole building could explode!” Pepper suddenly realized in alarm, finishing her Pikachu team leader’s sentence for him.

“Now… there’s no telling… whether the building… is properly primed right now or not… So… you can ask yourself one question…” Ace wheezed challengingly as he withdrew a small match from his pocket with his one remaining paw and prepared to flick it alight “‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well do ya’ punk?”

I dislike dittos, useless in my opinion. Unlike Quilaviper down there. Dittos only know one move before they transform, making a slow ditto a dead ditto
